API 653 Tank Inspection

American Petroleum Institute (API) Standard 653 “Tank Inspection, Repair, Alteration, and Reconstruction” defines the minimum requirements for the inspection, repair, alteration and reconstruction of carbon steel storage tank.

Our inspectors can assist in developing inspection programs that conform to this standard, or carry out the required inspections during operation, shutdown, repair or reconstruction of storage tanks.

There are many mechanisms that can cause degradation of storage tanks. These can include corrosion, fatigue, liner failure, anodic and cathodic protection failure, ect. Having a tank inspection program custom defined for your application can detect some of these failure mechanisms early and avoid costly downtime.

This photograph shows an interior component of a storage tank. The corrosion has caused leaks in some areas of this component. A through tank inspection program can help eliminate costly downtime.
